24 Hours In Miami

CAMILLA Leopard one piece and layer

How To Spend A Day And Night In Miamia
Life is spellbinding in the Magic City. With beaches that double as fashion runways by day, and an energy that’s magnetic by night, it makes sense that Miami was home to the CAMILLA Resort Show last weekend.

It’s the place to expect the unexpected.

Whether you’re an early riser or you’re not seen til brunchtime (no judgement here), The Goodtime Hotel, as its name would suggest, is one of the hottest new places to stay in Miami. A cool collaboration between entrepreneur David Grutman and singer-songwriter Pharrell Williams, the hotel’s public spaces feature hand-painted murals and art deco plasterwork. Meanwhile, the rooms have leopard-print benches and pink rotary dial phones – just the way we like them. There’s even a carpet woven with a pattern of wet footprints running along the corridors, giving the 266-room waterfront establishment the feeling of “being in a Wes Anderson film”, explains Williams.

The newly opened property also has a 30,000 square-foot pool club called Strawberry Moon, a gym, a recording studio, an eatery and a glossy peach-hued bar called the Library where guests can have fun over coffee or cocktails. “It’s good vibes, good energy, good karma, good food, good music, good environment, good vibration,” Williams told Vogue. “Come there one way, and then you leave vibrating. We call it spiritual WiFi.”

Continue those good vibrations with brunch, which is more than just a meal; it’s a state of mind. After all, at what other time of the day can you combine Champagne and orange juice, eggs and caviar, or berries with French toast and Chantilly cream. It’s daytime hedonism at its very best. Book a bungalow at the hotel’s Pool At The Strawberry Moon, where you can enjoy a Jah-Mama Mary (which is very Bloody good) and Moroccan Shakshuka, with a side order of midday party vibes.

After brunch, head to Miami's most Instagrammed place – Wynwood Walls. This outdoor gallery is an eye-popping collection of artwork by graffiti artists and muralists. It’s a nice foil to Miami’s many amazing museums, from the ICA to The Bass

Still in a mood for a little more art? Head to the Aventura Mall on Biscayne Blvd, which houses a world-class art collection that’s been 12 years in the making. The mall is also one of the best places to shop in Miami, with renowned luxury brands, including the CAMILLA Boutique. Say hi to our Angels while you’re there.

Retail therapy done, it’s time to look after the mind and body with a visit to Miami’s ultimate bohemian spa – Faena’s Tierra Santa Healing House. Designed by the director Baz Luhrmann and his wife Catherine Martin, the Faena has been dubbed one of Miami’s coolest hotels, and underneath its theatrical ambience lies a South American-inspired spa.

This place has a truly holistic approach to transformative healing and uses indigenous ingredients, traditional methods and state-of-the-art technology. Don’t miss the Tree of Life Vibrations treatment that incorporates a blend of oils and Brazilian rose stones, and ends with Nepalese singing bowls placed on the back to release relaxing sounds and vibrations.

Feeling energised, it’s time to return to the glamour and glitz that Miami is renowned for. Stroll down the oceanfront boardwalk before stopping for an aperitif or two at The Betsy, an intimate boutique hotel, with a hint of the Savannah, in the heart of South Beach. Take a seat on the Ocean Front Deck, listen to some live jazz in an informal atmosphere, sip a mojito, and watch the South Beach street life dance by.

Did someone say dance? For a night of dramatic dining and dancing, head to the lauded Matador Room at EDITION hotel, owned by Ian Schrager (yes, he of Studio 54 fame). With its massive restored white chandelier suspended over a sunken seating space, the formal dining room recalls the glamour of Miami in the ’40s and ’50s, with dishes that marry Latin American and Caribbean flavours. After dinner, take a trip down to the underground Basement Nightclub with its ice-skating rink and bowling alley.

Continue into the Miami night with a sweet cocktail 40 floors up at the swanky rooftop bar, Sugar. Situated in the relatively new EAST hotel in Brickell, you’ll get panoramic views of downtown Miami and Asian-inspired drinks that boast unusual ingredients like fuji apple bitters, tamarind ginger, jackfruit and Thai chilli. It’s no surprise this place consistently lands on lists of the top 10 bars in Miami..
